Joe Michelini of River City Extension. Their brand new album Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger is out TOMORROW on XOXO Records/Anchor & Hope Music, and is one of my highest anticipated releases of the year.
Check out the newly re-recorded version of “Ballad of Oregon” (the original version has been floating around the net since before The Unmistakable Man) on Soundcloud HERE!

River City Extension - “Friends and Family”/”Adrianne”/”The Fall and the Need to be Free”
The first two tracks are from 2010’s The Unmistakable Man on XOXO Records, the third is new! I can’t recommend these guys highly enough.

#2 River City Extension: The Unmistakable Man
If you were to take every element that I love about indie music and threw them in a blender, the result would be The Unmistakable Man - and it still comes out sounding brilliantly original. From the Avett-y folk elements of “If I Still Owned a Bible” to the raucous drunken rural punk of Titus Andronicus in “Too Tired Drink”, to the Calexico horns of “Mexico”, to the joyous boy-girl Los Campesinos-esque vocal trade offs of “Our New Intelligence”, to the driving Frightened Rabbit-y piano and ba-ba-bas of “Holy Cross”, The Unmistakable Man is an incredibly listenable and wholly satisfying full-length debut that not only lives up to the promise shown on their Nautical Sabbatical EP but surpasses it by leaps and bounds. Utterly fantastic.
Joe Michelini of River City Extension. The Unmistakable Man is out now on XOXO Records, and is quite possibly gonna win my vote for favorite album of the year.
